6. Are healthcare workers at the NIH required to have an annual TB skin test?

  • Healthcare workers at NIH are required to have a TB screen at time of hire (either a TB skin test or an IGRA blood test, depending on prior screening and medical history).

  • Annual TB skin tests are optional, but not required, for the majority of healthcare workers. Only those who work in certified high TB risk areas (including ICUs, Respiratory Therapy, and Bronchoscopy) must have a TB skin test completed annually.
