The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), Department of Homeland Security (DHS), must be informed of all address changes within 10 days of the move. It is your responsibility, and not the responsibility of the Division of International Services (DIS), to comply with this requirement in a timely manner. Failure to report the change of address is a violation of immigration status and may lead to termination of your stay in the U.S. and/or other penalties as set by the DHS.
It is important that you also notify the DIS of your address change by completing our Change of Address Request (NIH only) in the DIS Customer Portal. Also provide your new address to your Institute/Center’s Administrative office (and Office of Human Resources for those in employee/ FTE designations).
NIH-sponsored J-1 and J-2 Exchange Visitors must notify DIS of the address change within the ten (10)-day period in order for the DIS to report the change in the Student Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) within the authorized time frame. DIS notification in SEVIS fulfills USCIS's change of address requirements. In other words, NIH-sponsored J-1 and J-2 Exchange Visitors do not need to submit the Form AR-11.
Note: If you have an application pending at a USCIS Service Center or District Office, a separate address notification is required. Follow the directions on the
USCIS web site.
As always, if you have any questions, please contact the DIS.
