General NIH Staff

Certain NIH staff who do not work in a laboratory or the Clinical Center may come into contact with radioactive material and/or ionizing radiation-emitting devices while performing their routine duties. These employees must obtain authorization by the Division of Radiation Safety to work with radioactive materials and operate radiation-producing equipment.

Each individual working in an area or engaging in activities with the potential of radiation exposure or contact with radioactive materials has a responsibility to act in accordance with the requirements of the DRS, as determined by the Radiation Safety Committee.
