High and Maximum Containment Laboratories Testing

BSL-3/ABSL-3 & BSL-4/ABSL-4 HVAC Annual Verification

The primary purpose for HVAC verification testing is to verify that the BSL-3/ABSL-3 laboratory/facility maintains directional airflow from “clean” areas toward “potentially contaminated” areas during normal operations and failure conditions and “is designed such that under failure conditions the airflow will not be reversed at the containment barrier" (BMBL BSL-3 Paragraph D.9 & ABSL-3 Paragraph D.5.e)

BSL-4 Pressure Decay Testing

The purpose of this test is to determine if the walls, floors, ceilings, penetrations and other containment barrier features have adequate integrity to prevent leakage of air from the containment space. Yearly testing is performed by SEA engineering personnel with the assistnace of maintenance representatives to verify the commissioning data so laboratory operations can continue.
