BSC Streamline Process

The Biosafety Cabinet (BSC) Streamline Process is intended for qualifying projects in which the primary scope of work involves the replacement, relocation, or addition of a non-ducted, recirculating Class II Type A2 BSC, or a ducted BSC that meets the eligibility criteria outlined in this manual.
The streamlined review process requires coordination only with the appropriate NIH divisions, including the Division of Safety (DS), the Design and Technical Services Branch (DTSB), and the Division of the Fire Marshal (DFM). Within DS, the Safety Engineering Activity (SEA) serves as the primary point of contact throughout the review process.

For each eligible project, these organizations work collaboratively to verify that the existing laboratory infrastructure, safety features, and mechanical systems comply with the NIH Design Requirements Manual (DRM) and are adequate to support the proposed BSC installation.
