Safety Shoe
Program
The Division of Safety (DS) developed the Safety Shoe Program to help protect NIH employees whose job duties may expose them to foot injuries from occupational hazards. The program provides eligible employees with protective footwear as part of their required personal protective equipment (PPE).
NIH employees whose job duties present a potential risk of foot injury may obtain safety shoes through the program with approval from their supervisor and based on the requirements of their position.
Safety footwear provided through the program must meet applicable federal safety standards and may include slip-resistant steel-toe or composite-toe safety shoes, as appropriate for the employee's work hazards.
