Guidance for Individuals with Disabilities

Overview

Employees who may need assistance evacuating or with moving to an area of refuge are responsible for identifying themselves to their supervisor. Supervisors are responsible for informing the building’s Occupant Emergency Coordinator (OEC) that an occupant has requested assistance during emergencies. The employee should only communicate their accommodation needs and should not disclose nor should they be asked about specific medical information.

The OEC and/or supervisor will coordinate with the individual to develop a personalized plan (see template below) and assign one or more Aides to help them during an emergency. Other occupants, OEO members, or emergency response personnel will provide assistance if the Aides are unavailable at the time of the emergency.
