DEM
is responsible for managing NIH-wide programs that deliver planning, training, and
preparedness resources to ensure the NIH community is ready to handle any
crisis ranging from localized emergencies to wide-spread disasters. DEM provides
guidance and training to NIH staff on how to respond to an emergency at work,
as well as resources for preparing at home. The NIH’s 911 Call Center is always
available to answer emergency calls and dispatch first responders when needed. Our
team drafts and maintains operational plans to coordinate the efforts of emergency
response organizations within NIH’s jurisdiction and facilitates the flow of
critical information if those plans are activated.
