Minimizing close contact with personnel during respiratory virus surges or outbreaks can help minimize transmission. There is no specific distance that protects against transmission due to the many factors that can affect transmission. However, limiting close contact with potentially ill or exposed people (under 6 feet) to less than 15 minutes per day can be effective for reducing transmission of respiratory viruses.
Physical distancing is currently not mandatory. In the event of periods of increased respiratory virus activity levels, personnel should minimize close contact with personnel that have respiratory virus symptoms. They should also consider avoiding large gatherings where it is difficult to determine if attendees have symptoms.
