Sponsorship Training for Administrative Officers (AOs)

In the PIV process, the Sponsor acts on behalf of NIH to request an Applicant be issued an ID badge. Training must be completed and a signed certificate must be submitted to the HSPD-12 Program Office before a PIV Sponsor can request a badge for an Applicant.

Administrative Officers (AOs) who wish to obtain sponsor authority must complete the following:

1. Complete the NED AO/AT Training (note: a refresher training is required every 3 years).

2. Read and complete the PIV Sponsor Training for NIH (PDF Document 16 Pages) (Slides & Certificate) (Training time: 10 minutes). Administrators must be connected to the NIH network to access the training. PDF documents on this page require the free Adobe Reader.

3. E-mail a copy of the signed certificate from BOTH trainings to hspd12@od.nih.gov. Upon receipt of the signed certificates, a DPS representative may authorize the AO as a Sponsor if the individual is listed in NED.

Note: An individual must be added as an "Administrative Officer (AO)" in NED by the individual's AO first before the sponsor role can be added by DPS. ONLY individuals with an AO Sponsor role in NED are eligible to be HHS ID Badge/PIV Card Sponsors.

These training modules were developed through the cooperative efforts of all the agencies in the Department of Health and Human Services.
