The Mail Customer Service Branch (MCSB) assists the NIH community with mailing needs and promptly responds to questions and concerns. The primary responsibilities of the MCSB are:
- Assist in resolving general mail and/or distribution problems
- Provide guidance on mail preparation and processing of NIH interoffice communications; USPS special services, permit imprint mail, and business reply mail; and DMMS mail transit times, etc.
- Participate in IC staff and building occupant meetings (upon request) to discuss mail related issues
- Provide information about mail security
- Assist NIH employees to establish mail pick-up and delivery points
- Assign mail stop codes (MSC), mailboxes, and issue mailbox keys
- Provide mail forwarding for offices and employees relocating to NIH offices in Bethesda, Gaithersburg, and Rockville
- Provide or order USPS mailing supplies (upon request) that are not carried in NIH self-service stores
- Receive and process congressional mail; undeliverable as addressed interoffice and USPS mail; return to sender mail; and misdirected mail
- Review and forward improperly addressed mail and inter-office communications generated by the NIH community
- Initiate tracking actions on NIH inter-office specials, USPS registered, certified, express and delivery confirmation mail with the USPS as necessary
