The Division of International Services (DIS) is responsible for verifying that all foreign nationals (individuals who are not U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residents) placed at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) have been lawfully admitted to the United States and are undertaking activities at NIH that are appropriate for their immigration status. Such individuals must be validated by DIS before they are eligible for an NIH Identification Badge.
Most badge validations for NIH Visiting Program (VP) participants (those in an NIH designation requiring DIS case processing) are completed as a part of DIS
case processing). In the event that a VP participant requires a badge validation outside of normal case processing, administrators should refer to our guidance on
Badge Sponsorship (see “NIH-sponsored Foreign Nationals”).
