NIH ID Badges Contractor Badges

Certain foreign nationals placed at NIH are not part of the Visiting Program but still require validation from DIS before obtaining a NIH badge. This includes NIH contractors, tenants, and volunteers.

After receipt of the required documentation (see below), DIS will validate the individual's badge request in the NIH Enterprise Directory (NED) to attest that the individual was lawfully admitted to the U.S. and is undertaking activities at NIH that are consistent with his/her immigration status.

After DIS validation, the Division of Personnel Security and Access Control (DPSAC) is responsible for the subsequent background investigation and NIH badge issuance.

How to Submit Badge Documentation to DIS

Do not come to the DIS office. DIS will only process badge validation requests submitted electronically.

Submit required documents via the Secure Email and File Transfer Service (SEFT) to dis@mail.nih.gov.

DIS will review all validation requests in SEFT within five business days.

If you do not have SEFT access - your contracting company or NIH administrative contacts must submit documents via SEFT on your behalf.

Refugee
