Using your SmarTrip Card

​Instructions for Using your SmarTrip® card & Monthly Subsidy

If you enrolled in the NIH Transhare Program, your benefits will be loaded directly to your SmarTrip® card on the 1st of every month. Additionally, when you first sign up for the program, NIH will provide funds at a pro-rated amount for your use for the remainder of your initial month.

Transit Providers without SmarTrip® card Readers 

Vanpool MetroAccess MARC/VRE/DASH
MTA Commuter Buses Martz

Riders of vanpools MARC, VRE, MTA commuter buses, MetroAccess, and other modes of transit that do not have SmarTrip card readers, have an additional allocation step to move the benefits from their SmarTrip cards to their transit vendor. Please read all the steps for your provider before proceeding.
