Hurricane Season is Here - Be Prepared

The Office of Research Services, Division of Emergency Preparedness and Coordination (DEPC) would like to remind staff that June 1 marks the beginning of the hurricane season. As we learned firsthand last year with Hurricane Irene, the D.C. region is not immune to hurricanes.

Some keys to hurricane safety are to prepare for the risk and to act on those preparations when alerted by emergency officials. Highlights on how to prepare and take action include making a communications plan, building an emergency supplies kit, and staying informed before, during, and after a hurricane. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has provided substantial details on these recommendations through their Ready.gov campaign. (http://www.ready.gov/hurricanes

The week of May 27 through June 2 is National Hurricane Preparedness Week. For additional information on hurricanes and other natural disasters, please visit the DEPC website at: http://www.ors.od.nih.gov/ser/depc/info/Pages/Natural-Disasters.aspx, or contact DEPC staff at (301) 496-1985.
