Serving the NIH Community

Because of a lapse in government funding, the information on this website may not be up to date, transactions submitted via the website may not be processed, and the agency may not be able to respond to inquiries until appropriations are enacted. The NIH Clinical Center (the research hospital of NIH) is open. For more details about its operating status, please visit cc.nih.gov. Updates regarding government operating status and resumption of normal operations can be found at opm.gov.

Animal Procurement

DVR provides centralized procurement of rodents and rabbits from established commercial animal vendors. Requests for laboratory animals are processed with vendors, and deliveries to the specified animal facility are arranged. Rodent and rabbit shipping crates also are available on request. Large animals such as dogs, cats, non-human primates, and livestock can also be procured from approved sources. DVR maintains animal procurement contracts to facilitate the purchase of several species for NIH investigators.

Centralized Animal Procurement System (CAPS)

Small animals are procured using the Centralized Animal Procurement System (CAPS). Access to CAPS is obtained through your Administrative Officer.
