The DVR Mission
The mission of the Division of Veterinary Resources (DVR) is to contribute to the advancement of NIH biomedical research programs by providing excellence in animal care, customer service, and specialized research services to support intramural research efforts. DVR's diverse and dedicated staff emphasizes accountability to the NIH researcher's needs in areas including humane animal and veterinary care, animal behavior and enrichment, diagnostics and health surveillance, surgery, pharmacy, procurement, nutrition, and animal transportation.
Biomedical Research Support
As the central NIH laboratory animal support program, DVR serves NIH intramural investigators by providing a full range of essential and specialized veterinary services. In addition, DVR professional staff is available for consultation on all aspects of laboratory animal medicine and to participate in collaborative research

Facilities
DVR manages a major part of all animal facility space at the NIH. With capabilities in conventional, SPF, or hazard containment environments, DVR can accommodate virtually any animal species required in biomedical research. All programs and facilities are AAALAC accredited.
Personnel
A full complement of professional, management, technical, and support staff are dedicated to the delivery of quality veterinary, animal care and research support services. Our professional staff is comprised of veterinarians, many of whom are Diplomates of the American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine or the American College of Veterinary pathologists. Others have advanced degrees in disciplines such as behavior, genetics, immunology, microbiology, pathology, pharmacology, and animal nutrition. Our management staff provides oversight to animal care and daily operations of the facilities. Our technical and support staff is comprised of biology laboratory technicians, enrichment technicians, veterinary technicians, animal care personnel, cagewash personnel, and motor vehicle operators. The varied backgrounds of the DVR staff provide a wide range of expertise to NIH researchers.
