We've all been there: dashing out the door, juggling bags, tickets, and travel snacks as we hurry to make a holiday flight. Then, somewhere over the country, that nagging thought hits: What did I forget? The dog is at the kennel… the front door is locked… the oven?

Fortunately for one NIH resident, the NIH Division of Police were on duty and ready to serve this Thanksgiving. At the resident's request, an officer responded to her apartment, checked the unit and confirmed that the oven was safely turned off. ​With everything secure, the resident was able to enjoy her holiday trip without worrying about what might be waiting back home.

Even on Thanksgiving Day our officers stand ready to deliver a sense of safety and peace of mind.

​​​Join us in recognizing an outstanding team response to a call for service by the NIH Division of Police.

On September 19, 2025, a NIH police officer was dispatched to the Gateway Inspection Center on the NIH Main Campus for what appeared to be a routine ID verification. During the check, the officer discovered that the subject had an outstanding warrant for arrest. Acting swiftly and safely, the officer called for backup and the team took the subject into custody.  ​The individual was safely transported to the Montgomery County Detention Center for processing.
