Project Description:
Amyloid fibrils have a characteristic architecture of well-ordered β-strands, leading to an alignment of amide bonds and strong coupled vibrational modes. Using Raman microspectroscopy, Flynn et al., found vibrational differences in α-synuclein fibrils and revealed molecular-level perturbations by Parkinson's disease–related mutations, offering a new method for characterizing amyloid structure.
