Due to ongoing construction near Wilson Drive, the route for tomorrow's 17th Annual NIH "Take-A-Hike Day" on the Bethesda Main Campus will differ slightly from previous years. Hikers will exit campus at Center Drive/Rockville Pike and re-enter at North Drive/Rockville Pike.
Road Closure Notice
To accommodate participants, Center Drive will be briefly closed — from Building 1 to Rockville Pike (near Building 38, the National Library of Medicine) — from 11:50 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 4.
- NIH Police will be on hand to assist with traffic control throughout the event
- Drivers: Please remain alert for pedestrians in crosswalks
- Pedestrians: Always use sidewalks and crosswalks, and make eye contact with drivers before stepping off a curb
Event Schedule & Route
- 11:30 a.m. — Activities begin
- 12:00 p.m. (noon) — Hike starts promptly
- Participants will re-enter campus at North Drive, with the hike concluding in the courtyard between Buildings 31 and 33
- Water stations will be available along the route to keep you cool and hydrated
Important Reminders
- Register today — there's still time to sign up and join the fun at multiple NIH locations
- Bring your NIH ID — you will need it to re-enter campus at North Drive
- Follow all signage and volunteer directions as you travel along the campus perimeter
