Law Enforcement Emergency Training Drills Held on NIH Main Campus in August

On several weekdays in August beginning Tuesday, August 14, the NIH police will be conducting training exercises, including search and rescue maneuvers, in conjunction with other police jurisdictions on the Bethesda main campus. The exercises will occur in and around the currently vacant Building 7, located between Buildings 5 and 10 on Memorial Drive.

The NIH community should note that the exercises are only a training drill. Employees and visitors should anticipate heightened police activity, including the presence of other law enforcement agencies, during these exercises.

These drills should not disrupt the normal business of the NIH. However, people may see mock victims, police personnel wearing tactical dress and simulated sounds associated with an emergency situation.

To reiterate, employees and visitors should not be alarmed. This is a planned exercise to test the NIH Police and assisting law enforcement agencies capability to respond to an emergency. If concerns arise during these exercises, please call 311 from an NIH phone or (301) 496-5685 from a mobile phone to reach the NIH Police non-emergency line.

The exercises will be held on the following dates:
