Car Free Day Friday September 22

Join the Metropolitan DC area in celebrating Car Free Day on Friday, September 22. Visit the Car Free Day Metro DC website to pledge today. It only takes a minute to fill out the form.

Car Free Day is an international event that encourages people to commute and get around the area without using a car. The event highlights alternative modes of transportation such as bicycling, mass transit, walking and carpooling. It's the perfect day to try a new mode of transportation with family, friends and co-workers. If you're teleworking, you're also having a positive effect on traffic congestion and the environment.

If you choose to bike to the Bethesda campus on Car Free Day, note that the Office of Research Services, Division of Amenities and Transportation Services and the NIH Police will be available outside the south lobby of Building 10 to register your bike. You can also pick up a free “Bike to Work" t-shirt while you're there (while supplies last).

If you're looking for a carpool/vanpool to join, sign up on the DATS Rideshare program to find other commuters that live and work near you. Please visit the ORS Commuter and Parking Services (CAPS) web page. Select the NIH Employee LOGIN to sign in, and then choose “Join Rideshare."

Individuals with disabilities who need sign language interpreting and/or other reasonable accommodations to participate in the event and/or webinar should contact Sean Cullinane by email or by phone at 301-496-4998. Requests should be made at least five days in advance. To access Telecommunications Relay Services (TRS), call 711.

Please visit the following websites for additional commuting information:
