Bike to Work Day
Friday, May 15
7:00 AM – 9:30 AM
NIH Bethesda Campus - Front of Building 1
Celebrate National Bike Month and Bike to Work Day with the NIH and the NIH Bicycle Commuter Club (NIHBCC). The NIH will host one of the 120 pit stops in D.C., Maryland and Virginia, supported by the Washington Area Bicyclists Association (WABA). Join us – rain or shine – in this national celebration to bicycling as an environmentally friendly, cost effective, fun and healthy way to get to work.
Register for Bike to Work Day
Registration for this event is free by visiting https://www.biketoworkmetrodc.org/ and clicking on the “Register" icon on the top right. Enter your employer as "MD Montgomery Co National Institutes of Health" and help NIH defend our proud title as the employer with the most Bike to Work Day participants.
At the NIH pit stop, staff who register by May 8 and ride a bicycle wearing a helmet can pick up a free Bike to Work Day t-shirt. Also, keep in mind that Metro allows bicycles during rush hour. Combining bicycling and Metro is another great choice! Anyone who rides a bicycle to Metro or their closest bus stop is still participating in Bike to Work Day and will benefit from this method of transportation. This is a perfect day to ease the stress of transportation, even if you only ride for a small portion!
Explore Biking to Work
If you've never commuted by bicycle to NIH and are not sure how to begin, please explore the "Commuting" link on the NIH Bicycle Commuter Club website. You can connect with local bikers who are happy to help and even ride along with new bikers. Learn tips on topics ranging from purchasing a bicycle to favorite NIH commuting routes.
The NIH Division of Amenities and Transportation Services will also host a webinar on May 7 at 1pm to discuss Bike to Work Day details and guest speakers will offer help to anyone who is new to biking to work.
