East Drive to Open to Two-Way Traffic

East Drive, currently open to one-way traffic only in the northeast corner of the Bethesda campus, will permanently change to two-way traffic starting next week. On Sunday, October 3 at 7pm and concluding at 4am on Monday, October 4, the roadway will undergo re-striping and other signage changes to configure East Drive to two-way traffic. (If there is inclement weather, the work will happen at a later date and East Drive will temporarily remain one way.) During this roadwork, access to the Building 33 loading dock will be unavailable.

The opening of East Drive to two-way traffic is the first step in a series of mitigation strategies on the NIH Bethesda campus intended to address potential traffic and parking disruptions due to major construction projects beginning on the campus in early 2022. Additional information about upcoming changes to the NIH campus related to parking, traffic and associated construction will be added to the NIH Traffic website at: over the coming months. To locate East Drive, look for the red vehicle icon in the northeast (top right) corner of the campus map.
