Celebrate National Bike Month and Bike to Work Day on May 17

The NIH Bicycle Commuter Club (NIHBCC) and the Office of Research Services (ORS), Division of Amenities and Transportation Services (DATS) invite you to participate in this year's Bike to Work Day, Friday, May 17, 2024. Join us – rain or shine – in this national celebration of bicycling as an environmentally friendly, cost-effective, fun and healthy way to get to work.

113 Pit Stops in DC, Maryland and Virginia
The NIH will host one of 113 “pit stops" in D.C., Maryland and Virginia, supported by the Washington Area Bicyclists Association (WABA).

To Register
Registration for this event is free by visiting http://biketoworkmetrodc.com/ and clicking on “Free Event – Register Here." Enter your employer as "MD Montgomery Co National Institutes of Health Bldg 1" and help NIH defend our proud title as the employer with the most Bike to Work Day participants.

Stop By the NIH Pit Stop
NIH staff who register by May 3 and ride a bicycle wearing a helmet can pick up a free Bike to Work Day t-shirt.

  • New! Metro allows bicycles during rush hour now. Combining bicycling and Metro is another great choice!
  • Anyone who rides a bicycle to Metro is still participating in Bike to Work Day and will benefit from this method of transportation.
  • Given rising gas prices and the ongoing construction on campus, this is a perfect day to ease the stress of transportation even if you only ride for a small portion!
