Bike to Work Day.
Friday, May 15, 2015.
7:00 AM – 9:30 AM; Opening remarks at 8:00 AM.
NIH Bethesda Campus ( in front of Building 1) and other
area locations.
Celebrate National Bike Month and Bike to Work Day with
the NIH Bicycle Commuter Club (NIHBCC)! Join NIH Director, Dr. Francis Collins,
for opening remarks at 8:00 AM in front of Building 1, followed by the
presentation of the Carl Henn Bicycling Advocacy Award. This award is in memory
of Carl Henn, a former NIH employee who was very active with the NIHBCC and
within our community.
Last year, more than 10,000 area residents participated
in this annual event, and even more participants are anticipated this year. The
NIH has won the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments' (COG) award
eight years in a row for being the area's employer with the most Bike to Work
Day participants. Help us defend our proud title by registering online at: http://org.salsalabs.com/o/451/p/salsa/event/common/public/?event_KEY=83258.
The NIH will host one and participate in two additional
pit stops of the many local pit stops supported by the Washington Area
Bicyclists Association (WABA) in this national salute to bicycle commuting. The
three NIH-affiliated pit stops include (1) NIH Building 1 from 7:00 AM – 9:30
AM; (2) Rock Springs Business Park (Marriott HQ) from 6:30 AM – 9:00 AM; or (3)
Rockville – Fallsgrove (near NCI Shady Grove Campus) from 6:30 AM – 8:30 AM.
You will select one pit stop when you register.
At the NIH pit stops, NIH staff who show up riding a
bicycle and wearing a helmet may enjoy breakfast snacks and participate in a
raffle, sponsored by the Recreation and Welfare Association (R&W) and
NIHBCC. All pre-registrants may also receive a Bike to Work Day t-shirt care of
the Council of Governments, available while supplies last. Pre-registrants
unable to attend one of NIH's pit stops may pick up their t-shirt at the
R&W Gift Shop (Bldg. 31, Room B1W30, Bethesda Campus) for up to one week
after the event, available while supplies last.
Bike to Work Day is a rain or shine event. It is sponsored
by the Office of Research Services (ORS), Division of Amenities and
Transportation Services (DATS) and the NIHBCC. For further information about
