NIH Bethesda Main Campus Inclement Weather Operations - Tuesday, January 27, 2026

If OPM does not issue an Operating Status for Tuesday, January 27, 2026. allowing maximum telework for the DC area, for the safety of our employees and to aid in continued snow removal efforts, all telework employees whose official duty station is the NIH Main Campus Bethesda are authorized to telework on Tuesday, January 27, 2026.  This use of ad hoc telework does not count towards the 240-hour cap for 2026. Employees also have the option to request leave.

  • This status applies to ONLY to those whose official duty station is the NIH Main Campus Bethesda. All other NIH employees should follow closure procedures and operating status related to their work site.
  • Telework-eligible employees are expected to work from their alternative worksite in the event of a closure. An employee whose home is either the alternative worksite for ad-hoc telework purposes is generally not granted weather and safety leave when the employee's parent office (i.e., agency worksite) is closed, since the employee is able to safely perform work at an approved location. If the employee is unable to telework, they should request leave.
  • For remote employees and/or those with exceptions to the return to office (i.e. military spouses), the official worksite is their approved alternate worksite. Therefore, if they can safely perform work on site, they should do so.
  • Employees whose agency worksites are outside of the DMV should continue to follow closure procedures and operating status related to those work sites.
  • Tier 1 (emergency employees) are expected to report to or remain at their worksite unless otherwise directed by their agencies. Generally, emergency employees do not receive weather and safety leave.
  • Tier 3 (non-emergency/non-telework employees) are granted weather and safely leave in the event of an OPM closure to their agency worksite.
-For staff reporting on site, real-time updates to dining, parking and shuttle services are available on the Division of Amenities and Transportation Services (DATS) Operating Status website

All telework and leave must be requested and approved in ITAS.

Please contact your supervisors if you have questions about your telework status or tier designation.
