9th Annual NIH Take a Hike Day.
Thursday, June 2.
11:30 AM – 1:30 PM.
NIH Bethesda Campus – in front of Building 1.
Join invited guests, NIH Director Dr. Francis Collins, and the Executive Director of the President's Council on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition, Ms. Shellie Pfohl, for the 9th Annual NIH Take a Hike Day event. All NIH staff are invited to walk or run around the perimeter of the NIH campus (approximately 3.25 miles from start to finish) – rain or shine.
This year's event also serves to launch the U.S. Surgeon General's "Step it Up" campaign at the NIH. Commissioned Corps officers at NIH are responding to Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy's call to action to promote walking and walkable communities by promoting taking the stairs at NIH workplaces. Make every day a "Take a Hike Day" by taking the stairs and "Step it Up!"
In addition to the main campus, there will also be Take a Hike Day activities at various off campus locations. For more information and to register, please visit: http://www.ors.od.nih.gov/pes/dats/wellness/hike/Pages/hike.aspx.
Although we encourage all NIH staff to participate, please obtain your supervisor's approval before registering. Take a Hike Day is a voluntary event. Remember to bring your badge to get back on campus after the conclusion of the walk/run.
Show your team spirit and sponsor a water station!
Tables and water will be supplied – you provide the volunteers and enthusiasm! If you would like to sponsor a water station and show your IC spirit, please contact Ms. Michelle Aikens at Aikensm@mail.nih.gov or 301-402-8180. Tables will be assigned on a first come, first served basis.
This event is sponsored by the Office of Research Services (ORS), Division of Amenities and Transportation Services (DATS).
Individuals who need reasonable accommodation to participate in this event should contact Ms. Carole Harman, ORS, DATS, at Harmanc@ors.od.nih.gov, 301-402-8180, and/or the Federal Relay (1-800-877-8339). Requests should be made at least five days in advance of the event.
